The World Goes On

Pearls before Swine

I saw this comic in this Sundays paper it made me think about the blogsphere and how for many blogging becomes a major part of their lives.

Enjoy!

Cookie Cutters

One of the best things about sugar cookies is being able to use cookie cutters. One thing I love about cookie cutters is within seconds one is able to create an arsenal of little men and women. The point of using a cookie cutter as a mold is that it should create identical shapes, people and random objects. Once baked the cookies all have slightly different shapes and sizes.

It’s the shapes, sizes, and differences that make me love each and every one of them. It’s the fact that no two cookies are the same that makes me smile. How often in our lives do we try to put people into these cookie cutters try to create people who look like us, act like us, and even think like us. If we focus on the differences how things could be different. Both the small things, the cookie being larger than the one next to it, or maybe burnt around the edges, and the large, missing arms, legs and other body parts make us unique different and better. Why is it that we spend to much time focusing on how we can try to make people the same instead of looking at and understanding our differences?

Maybe I don’t fit into your cookie cutter shape, but maybe I don’t have to.

Dumb Ass

So i got this call from a guy today about how his photo was up on my website. Well the picture is a photo of me so apparently I am this other guy. Here is the phone call and e-mail.(All personal information has been removed.)

“Hello this is the real Brandon Duke you have your… my picture on your website. and uh, it says photo by Justin Dukes art network i mean artwork by Zach Mather but that’s my picture so I’m just wondering how you got it and what’s going on so give me a call back my number is… thank you. ” (listen to the message)

That message was then followed by this e-mail, which was sent to me at 5:47pm and then again at 9:22pm.

“From:Duke, Brandon
To: info@brandondukes.com,
Date: Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 5:47 PM
Subject: just kidding
This is Brandon Duke I called you earlier about the “Borat pic” I was just kidding you can use it if you want I was just messing with you.”

What does that even mean? Is he giving me permission to post myself online? For all those wondering the picture he’s talking about can be found on my other website brandondukes.com. I honestly have no idea how to respond to this… I actually have no plans to respond… Mr Brandon Duke, if you want me to respond then quit being a DUMB ASS.

Things I hate

I have decided to compile a list of things I hate, in no particular order.

  1. Up-selling, I mean come on RadioShack! If I’m buying a headset jack do I really need batteries or a Bluetooth headset?
  2. When counting coins and there are the exact amount (or more) coins than in a roll, why the need to open a new roll, come on people.
  3. When people assume things about others… it’s quite the nasty habit.
  4. Getting up early.
  5. Being lied to, the truth hurts but finding out you’ve been lied to tends to hurt more.
  6. when people assume things.

This is not an exhaustive list quite yet but I’m sure I’ll add more to it later.

If Jesus Had A Tattoo

I had an interesting conversation with a friend a couple of months back he made the comment to me that “Jesus had a tattoo.” Now, as someone coming from a fairly conservative religious background I’ve heard from birth that tattoos are evil and destroy your body. Therefore the thought of Jesus having one would be outrageous, right?

I now realize that tattoos are not “the mark of the beast” they are simply a form of art. We are all unique and we all choose to express it in different ways. As I thought of the idea of what if Jesus had a tattoo what would it be? Well blog community this is your chance to shine, take the poll today!

Also if you have any good ideas for polls let me know as I am launching the poll section of my website with this poll.
